What to Expect After a Filler Treatment
It is typically normal to notice:
- Mild bruising
- Tenderness or soreness at injection sites
- Swelling or small lumps under the skin
- Redness in the treated areas
- With lip filler: temporary pain with speaking or moving your lips
If you experience sudden or severe pain, please call Queen City Dermatology at 513-202-3883.
Some swelling, soreness, and bruising are expected and usually improve over 1 to 2 weeks.
How to Help with Healing
- Cool compresses: Apply a clean, small ice pack for 5 minutes, 4 times daily for the first 1–3 days.
- Topical care: Apply a healing product every hour until bedtime on the day of treatment to minimize swelling and bruising.
- Facial rest: Limit excessive expressions for 48 hours. Try to keep your smile soft and relaxed.
- Sleep position: Keep your head elevated the first night with an extra pillow. Try to avoid sleeping on your face, especially where you just had a filler treatment.
- Avoid for 48 hours: Vigorous exercise.
- Do not:
- Massage or press on treated areas (unless instructed by your provider).
- Sit in direct sun if bruising is present.
Special Instructions for Lip Filler
Lips heal differently than other areas and often feel firm or swollen at first. Lip filler is an exciting journey to your best results, which typically appear in about 14 days.
- Avoid kissing for 3 to 4 days.
- After 4 days: If you feel a small bump, gently press between clean fingers and lightly massage.
- Expect lips to feel slightly firm, swollen, or bumpy for up to 2 weeks.
- By 14 days, lips will soften and settle into their natural, enhanced shape.
- As with many cosmetic treatments, maintenance and repeat visits are often recommend for your very best results.
When to Call Us
Please contact Queen City Dermatology at 513-202-3883 if you experience:
- Severe or increasing pain
- White or bluish skin near the injection site
- Significant swelling that does not improve after several days
- Any new or concerning symptoms
